About Orangebox

Orangebox Designs, originally Orangebox Consulting was developed in 2003 as a PC repair business in Knoxville TN. This was an exciting business to own and operate, it involved small business advertising and was a lot of work. I quickly realized, however that my real talents lied in software, specifically web programming. I put Orangebox on hold for a while to jump into smaller roles in several large companies, sharpening my skills.

Now that I've had plenty of opportunity to study business models and software methods that work (and some that almost work) I'm restarting Orangebox as a Web Software shop.

Most of our projects come from Nashville through the Project Management of Katherine Richardson and Lynn Tinsey at RichLyn Marketing. I worked with Kate at Gibson Guitar Corp, helping to create one of the first revisions of their new editorial section. It was that project that largely got me interested in programming CMS driven sites, as I saw how beautifully they could scale and how simple concepts could grow into large highly informative sites.

About Jon Hoye

As a young entrepreneur, business was simple. Whatever you could buy you could also sell, profits only needed to be large enough to pad one's allowance. Eventually it made sense to join a larger company which led to my first paper route. This was also a relatively simple business since all the tough work was done by others leaving only delivery and some of the billing. As I got older, I found many different opportunities to work for myself as well as the occasional corporate gig.

In Germany they have the concept 'Auf Der Walz' where young workers travel the land working for various bosses until their skills improve. I had never heard of this concept, but it's one that would have been very attractive to model my life on. I worked for NetAlliant in Chattanooga, TopCoder at Altria, Gibson in Nashville and Unum back in Chattanooga along with smaller gigs along the way. Each job was very exciting and provided many opportunities to discover the best ways to get the job done, no matter the task.

Intermittently I would return to school in TN to make progress towards a Bio degree of some kind. Now I've settled on Molecular Biology and am focused long term on turning my software knowledge towards research, ideally to try to help reduce the costs of food for an ever expanding global population. All the while I plan to build a solid web shop focused on delivering high quality self-managed website solutions to small and growing businesses.
